More Compassionate Allowance ConditionsThe Social Security Administration added 13 new conditions to the compassionate allowance list. These conditions involve the
immune system and neurological disorders. The purpose of the compassionate allowance list is to speed up claims for those
with medical conditions that would clearly meet statutory requirements for disability under the Social Security disability
program. People who have a disability on this list can receive a favorable decision in days instead of months or years. These
13 new conditions will be effective in December of this year. This brings the total number of the compassionate allowance
list to 113 conditions. The compassionate allowance list should not be confused with the Social Security medical listing of
impairments. SSA reports that they approved 60,000 Social Security disability benefits claims last year under the compassionate
allowance program. It seems very possible if not probable that Social Security will continue to add medical conditions to
the compassionate allowance list as more research is done on which conditions are so severe that having the medical condition
itself makes you disabled under social security disability rules.
