May 2009 Update: As part of the effort to reduce the wait time to get a hearing, Social Security has
opened two new National Hearing Centers with the goal of helping to reduce the backlogs across the country. Later this year
there is plans to open a new National Hearing Center in Chicago, IL. Since this is a National Hearing Center and not a regular
hearing office, I do not know if there will be any emphasis on cases in Illinois or if this office will be strictly handling
other areas across the country by video conference. I would have to guess, however, that because of its location it should
have some impact on the ability to schedule more cases for the residents of IL. Hopefully, it will have a big impact on decreasing
the amount of time residents of this state will have to wait for their Social Security disability hearing.
