Update:  Social Security has opened a National Hearing Center (NHC) in Falls Church, Virginia in December of 2007 and part of its mission is to reduce the backlog at the Flint, Michigan hearing office.  These hearings are conducted by video conference.  This new hearing office will also be helping reduce backlogs in other ODAR offices as well.  The Social Security Administration will also be opening another NHC this year to further help with back logs across the country.  To further help reduce the time people have to wait for hearing in Michigan the Social Security Administration has plans to open two new hearing offices. The two new ODARs will be in Livonia, MI and Mount Pleasant, MI. Although when these offices will open has yet to be determined, this is good news because it will enable SSA to schedule more hearings in the state. This should ultimately lead to a decrease in the backlog of Social Security disability hearings.
