Virginia Social Security Disability:  Lawyers, How To Apply, Denial Rates, And Address.

Here you will find information on Social Security Disability in Virginia.  I will cover how to apply for SSDI and SSI.  I will also have a link to help you find a lawyer.  I will include statistics on denial rates at application and reconsideration in Virgina.  You will also find the processing time for each of the different ODAR or hearing offices that handle VA cases.

If you are looking for help in understanding how SSA decides if you are disabled in VA you should know that the law and what you have to prove is the same in every state.  The bulk of my website is devoted to understanding the Social Security process and how to help yourself in your claim.  So make sure to read the rest of this site.  The information on this page is material related to SSDI and SSI in VA.

Applying for SSDI or SSI is simple.  You can call 1-800-772-1213 and make an appointment at your local SSA office.  If you are applying for SSI this is the only option.  But if you are applying for Social Security Disability you can also apply on-line at the SSA website.  You can also find a lawyer to help you with your application.  If you want to research more about the application process see my page about applying for disability.

Most people who start this process want to know what their chances are at winning.  I don't know anything about your particular case but I will provide some statistics on denial rates in Virgina.  The denial rate at application in 2006 was 55.6% at application.  The denial rate at reconsideration was 84.5%.  Another question I get frequently is how long does it take to get a decision.  At application it usually takes anywhere from 3-6 months to get a decision but can take up to a year in some situations.  At reconsideration it usually takes another 3-6 months.  At the hearing stage it takes much longer.  You will find the processing time in days for the different ODAR offices below under each address.  Click on following link if you want to compare denial rates in other states.

ODAR Addresses, SSA Office Locations, and How Long It Takes.

Below you will find the addresses of the hearing offices that hear VA cases.  I have also listed the local SSA offices that these ODAR's serve.  You will also find the average processing time for that particular ODAR.
